The short version
- Steep & Simmer collects nothing about you. Everything stays on your phone.
- There is no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The app doesn’t send anything over the internet.
- We don’t sell anything about you, because we don’t have anything about you.
Who runs it
Steep & Simmer is made by Longbeard Consulting LLC, registered in Wyoming, United States. Reach us at privacy@longbeard.consulting, or by post at 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States.
What stays on your phone
Your settings, your teas and favourites, the names you give your timers, and the timers themselves (so a running timer survives the app being closed). They’re saved in the app’s own storage on your phone. We never see them. Deleting the app deletes them.
What the app uses on your phone
- Notifications: scheduled on your phone so a timer can ring while the app isn’t open. They’re not sent through any server.
- Alarms on Android: the app asks the phone to wake it at the exact moment a timer ends (exact alarms), even after a restart. While a timer rings, a foreground service keeps the sound going, keeps the phone awake and shows the alarm over the lock screen (full-screen notifications), so you can silence it without unlocking. While a timer runs, a quiet notification shows its time left on the lock screen (on Android 16 and later the phone may show it as a Live Update). The timers it rings are kept in the app’s own storage on your phone.
- The motion sensor: read only while an alarm is ringing (on Android, also when the phone is locked or the app closed), to notice when you shake the phone to silence it (you can turn this off). Its readings are never saved or sent anywhere.
- Sound, vibration and speech: to ring, buzz and say which timer finished (you can turn this off). Speech uses your phone’s own voice. If you choose a voice marked ‘Needs internet’, or your phone has no on-device voice for your language, your phone’s speech engine (for example Google’s) may send the words it speaks, such as a timer’s name, to its provider, under that provider’s privacy policy. The app itself sends nothing.
- Your phone’s language and region: to choose the app’s language and whether to show °C or °F.
- Nothing else: the app doesn’t ask for the microphone, camera, location, contacts, photos or files, or your physical activity. On Android it doesn’t even have permission to use the internet.
Children
Steep & Simmer collects nothing from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above changes too. If a change would ever mean collecting something, the app will tell you before it happens.
